Basic guide to NetSuite SuiteAnalytics

NetSuite’s SuiteAnalytics is a powerful tool for business intelligence and data analysis. It allows users to easily access, visualize, and analyze data from their NetSuite account, providing insights and decision-making support for their organization. In this blog, we will explore what SuiteAnalytics is and how it can benefit your business.

SuiteAnalytics is a native business intelligence (BI) platform within NetSuite, offering a range of reporting and analysis capabilities. It allows users to create custom reports and dashboards, using data from multiple NetSuite modules such as finance, sales, and marketing.

SuiteAnalytics is available in two versions: Standard and Advanced.

  • The Standard version comes with every NetSuite account and includes basic reporting and visualization features.
  • The Advanced version includes additional capabilities such as advanced filtering, data modeling, and predictive analytics.

In this blog, I will share the knowledge and skills needed to create SuiteAnalytics Dataset & Workbooks that enable you to analyze your NetSuite data from different perspectives to gain valuable business insights.

Our Objectives:

  • Create datasets and define dataset filter criteria using the Dataset Builder.
  • Summarize and aggregate source data using table views and pivot tables.
  • Gain unique insights by graphically visualizing your data in charts and graphs.
  • Share workbooks and datasets with other users and roles.
  • Export dataset and workbook information in a variety of formats.
  • Display workbook data visualizations in the Analytics portlet on user dashboards.

How to Use SuiteAnalytics

Using SuiteAnalytics is easy, even for those with little to no technical experience. Here is a basic overview of the process.  Following the steps to create the datasets, then the associated workbook visualizations. Each step builds on the previous step, so you must complete them in order:

Step Zero: Navigation

Step One: Select a Root Record Type

Create your first dataset by choosing a root record type.

We are going to create dataset from sales root record type

Step Two: Add Fields and Join Record Types

Choose the fields and record types that you want to include in your dataset.

Drag and drop the column in the report area, select any of the supported record for join in the left pane, for example, Sales Rep. Select any field from that record to show in the table.

Step Three: Filter Your Dataset

Apply criteria filters to refine your dataset query results.

Save the dataset

Step Four: Create a Workbook Based on Your Dataset

Continue your analysis by creating a workbook based on your dataset.

Go to Analytics -> Workbooks -> New Workbook

Select a recently created dataset by searching in the search box

Step Five: Pivot Your Dataset Query Results

Create a pivot table using your dataset query results.

Step Six: Connect a Second Dataset to Your Workbook

Create and join an additional dataset to your workbook.

Connect a new dataset in the same workbook

Step Seven: Set up a Table View & Chart View

Create a table or chart view using the query results from your second dataset.
