NetSuite Sandbox – Make The Most of Features, Types, and How to Refresh

A NetSuite Sandbox account is basically a staging environment for NetSuite. As we all know, the staging environment plays an important role in the definition and development of any system. They are almost an exact replica of a production environment. Staging environments are made to test codes, builds, and updates to ensure quality under a production-like environment before actual deployment. Except for processing email campaigns, payments, or any other external transactions, NetSuite sandbox account configures and customizes data from live production account.

A NetSuite Sandbox account that comes with three development accounts with each purchase offers on-demand refreshing the data from the production. NetSuite Sandbox accounts are a perfect place to perform the following activities:

  1. Development of new features and doing customization and changes in existing features without impacting the production environment.
  2. Fixing of bugs and issues within existing features and customization.
  3. Testing of newly developed features and customization before deployment
  4. Trying out SuiteApps offered by NetSuite and third-party vendors.
  5. Performing training sessions of organization employees on existing or new business features and practices

Types of Netsuite Sandbox Accounts

NetSuite offers two different types of Sandbox accounts to their customers.

1. Development Account

These accounts are very similar to a production account of a company in terms of its features and even NetSuite-provisioned SuiteApps. The only difference between development accounts and a company’s production account is that a development account does not incorporate production data or customization options for accounts. A benefit of these accounts is that it allows the company to outsource developers without giving them access to company data.

2. Premium Sandbox Account

The most significant difference between a premium sandbox account and a production account of a company is that they are specifically set for end-to-end testing. It is due to this reason these accounts are subject to lower levels of traffic. The best application of these accounts is to cater to the high-performance needs of customers. These accounts are designed for high-volume automated performance testing which is why it closely simulated a production account. A feature that makes these accounts great for testing is that it supports on-demand refreshing of data.

Businesses can get NetSuite Sandbox accounts as per their specific needs. You need:

Development Account: If you want to create scripts using SuiteScript, do some customization using SuiteFlow and perform testing. It is for testing that can be done without using any customer related data or stats.

Single Sandbox: It is for customization development that requires the use of SuiteScript or SuiteFlow with actual customer data.Multiple Sandboxes: If you have complex projects, you can use multiple sandboxes. Multiple sandboxes allow a team of software developers to work independently with unique and individual datasets and test customizations.

Sandbox Refresh

When a refresh request is made, it creates an exact copy of the production. This activity account copies all customizations, configurations, and data from the production account into the sandbox instance. Sandbox accounts can be periodically refreshed from production accounts. Account administrators can manage this task using the Sandbox Accounts page in the production account.

New NetSuite Releases on Sandbox Account

When NetSuite deploys new release on Production Accounts, at the same time Sandbox accounts are automatically upgraded. Any manual Sandbox account refresh request is not required for new release deployment on Sandbox Accounts.
